History of Pranas

For centuries, wise sages understood that the human body is not limited to its physical form but also includes an energy body, commonly referred to as Aura/Bio plasmic body. They believed that this energy body extends beyond the physical body, and is composed of molecular structures that are essential for sustaining life.

In many ancient cultures, pranas were considered the essence of life, and practitioners were able to manipulate them for healing purposes. For instance, in Hinduism, the concept of prana is closely linked to the practice of yoga, which involves various breathing exercises aimed at regulating the flow of pranas in the body. Similarly, in Traditional Chinese Medicine, prana is referred to as Qi, and is believed to flow through specific pathways or meridians in the body.

Over the years, the study of pranas has continued to evolve, with modern researchers exploring various aspects of the life force energy. Today, many scientists believe that pranas play a crucial role in maintaining physical and mental well-being, and have even linked them to the functioning of the nervous system.

Reference in Upanishads

Discover the timeless wisdom of the Upanishads the seers spoke of the powerful life force energy known as Prana. In these ancient texts, the seer sang of the vital importance of Prana, which is believed to flow through all living things, sustaining and nourishing them.

Pranasyedam vase sarvam yat tridive pratishthitam

Mateva putraan rakshasva Srisha Prajnamsha Vidhehi nah

According to the Upanishads, before the creation of a being, God created prana and matter in the form of akash(Ether).

From akash, with prana, the air was formed; From the air, with prana, the fire was formed;prana From the fire, with prana, the water was formed; and From the water, with prana, the earth was created.

This led to creation of the five elements, called the pancha mahabhutas or 5 natural elements we know. In other words, prana is the force that sets the matter into action or motion. This is the rationale behind calling prana the 'life force'. Prana is the root for creation of all beings in the universe'.

Therefore, prana is the root for the existence of life. The nature has prana in abundance. Prana is essential for the existence of a being, and the nature helps a being to exist with its prana.

Purpose of Pranas

Prana is not just the breath we take in, but a fundamental force that permeates every aspect of our being.

Life is a journey that begins with the first cry of a baby and ends with the last breath we take. Throughout our lives, we engage in various activities in physical, emotional, mental, or any other form. Our body is made up of matter that needs to be set in motion or activity to function properly. This is where Prana, the universal energy that sets matter into action, comes into play.

Prana is the life force that gives energy to all living organisms, and its insufficiency or slow movement in the body results in disease. The purpose of Prana is to keep the body active with life, and it is used by every motion of muscles, every thought form, every act of will, etc. Therefore, constant replenishment of Prana is necessary for healthy living, achieved through various sources.

The three primary sources of Prana are solar prana from the Sun, air prana from the air, and earth prana from the earth. The body acquires Prana primarily from the food we eat, oxygen from air, and vitality from the Sun. Without adequate Prana, the body cannot function properly, leading to a lack of ease and overall disease.
